Photo of swamp in Cypress Creek Wildlife Management Area near Turner Bridge Boat Ramp on the Suwannee River

Large oak trees grow on the sides of a shallow creek leading off of the Suwannee River. The water level can rise and fall rapidly on the upper portion of the river. When the level of the river rises, water floods from the river through the creeks to fill the adjoining swamps. As the river level drops the water floods back out of the swamps through the feeder creeks.
